Inmate dies at San Joaquin County Jail

FRENCH CAMP — At about 4:50 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, a 46-year-old white male inmate housed at the San Joaquin County Jail’s

Sheltered Housing Unit was found unresponsive in his cell.

Life-saving measures were immediately initiated while medical staff and emergency responders arrived on scene. The inmate was transported to San Joaquin County General Hospital and was pronounced deceased at 2:43 p.m. on Jan. 25, reports state.

The inmate was in a cell for one, and had been in custody since Jan. 20, facing vandalism charges, reports state.

An investigation is ongoing. The San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause of death, and will release the name of the deceased after his family has been notified.
